Instead, focus on preserving information that may become important during the investigation, including photographs, medical records, school records, text messages, emails, or other documentation that helps explain the circumstances. If the allegations involve an ongoing custody dispute or another court case, those proceedings may also become relevant as the investigation moves forward.

When CPS requests interviews or additional information, the way those conversations are handled can affect both the investigation and any related family court or criminal proceedings.

Can Someone Get in Trouble for Making a False CPS Report?

Kentucky law provides legal protections for individuals who report suspected child abuse in good faith. Those protections exist because the law encourages people to report situations where they genuinely believe a child may be in danger.

At the same time, knowingly making false allegations may have legal consequences depending on the specific facts of the situation. Whether additional legal action is appropriate depends on the circumstances surrounding the report and any evidence showing the allegations were intentionally false.
